The Ascendant - the cusp of the first house - represents the point at which the impulse of self emerges into manifestation from unconscious essence. It is how we appear to others.

Ascendant's Sign

The sign of the Ascendant (also called the rising sign) represents the energetic nature of our impulses as they emerge into manifestation and can be experienced by others. For instance, if the Ascendant is in Taurus, we appear to be contained and purposeful. If the Ascendant is in Sagittarius, others see us as enthusiastic and opinionated.
