Browsers
This site has been tested using the latest versions of Firefox, Safari and Netscape for the Macintosh, as well as Firefox and Internet Explorer for Windows. It seems to work properly on these browsers. It does not work well using Opera for Macintosh, or Internet Explorer 6.0 and earlier.Links
The text of this site is extensively hyper-linked, that is many words and phrases can be clicked on to take you to a page that gives more information on the linked term. I have chosen, in most cases, to not underline these words, as I find it distracting. However, you may wish to have the links a bit more obvious. To do this, select the "Highlight Links" button, which will highlight the text links with a light yellow background color:*Popup Notes
As you move your mouse over the text, a linked word or phrase becomes brightly highlighted (unless you have chosen to have all links lightly highlighted), e.g. Virgo. Further, shortly after the highlighting, a note box pops up giving a short description of the term. In many cases this is sufficient, and obviates the need to follow the link. Some people, however, find this popping up of notes distracting or irritating. If you hold the shift key down while you move the mouse over the text, the terms will continue to be highlighted but the notes will not be displayed. This is the default behavior. You may prefer, however, to have the popup notes displayed only when you hold the shift key down. You can change the operation of the site to this preference by selecting the "Show Notes Using Shift Key" button.* At any time you can return to this page and switch to the default behavior by selecting "Prevent Notes Using Shift Key".
Menus
The menus at the top of each page work analogously. By default a menu appears when you move the mouse over its menu name. If you want to move the mouse over the menu bar without any menus appearing, hold down the shift key.You can change this default behavior to its opposite by selecting the "Show Menus Using Shift Key" button below*. If this is done, the menus will only be displayed when you hold down the shift key while moving the mouse over the menu name.
