In My Approach I talk about how your birth chart shows your life's path, and how by tuning into the archetypes in your chart you can connect to and follow that path. Well, that's pretty cool, but there's something even more important here. The amazing thing, as I see it, is that we each have a unique and specific path, and that it's so clearly represented in the chart. We live in a universe of meaning and order, and it's possible to connect directly to that meaning and order.

Science tells us that the universe is essentially random and impersonal. Any personal meaning we experience in life we create ourselves, superimposing it in a kind of anthropomorphizing, collective delusion. If we believe in one of the three Western religions, there is meaning and order. It is again superimposed upon otherwise dead matter, this time from an external and transcendent God. Even here, the meaning is pretty collective - applying to humans in general and how we should behave. Getting God to give us personal advice is fairly challenging.

Astrology says that the meaning is inherent in the universe. Further, it says that we are each a part of this universe, and thus the meaning is inherent in us. It is just a case of uncovering it - seeing it clearly. This is the function of the birth chart - it shows us the pattern of meaning that is an essential part of who we are. An astrologer, practiced in reading this meaning, can of course help you to see it. Even more importantly, the astrologer can help you to connect to the meaning, to allow it to fill you and move you forward. Now that's really cool.
