Fire

Fire is the initial phase of the developmental sequence of an entity. Here we see a new impulse, a thrust into being. The impulse is simple and straightforward - pure action. It is bringing something new to manifestation. Think of this as a mostly unconscious idea or an ideal - the seed or core of an entity. It is pure and innocent, seeking only to be what it is.

The world, inevitably, resists making space for the new entity. It tries to limit and constrain the impulse. Fire fights this with all its considerable energy, at times confused by this unexpected reaction, but mostly excited to test its strength against the adversary. Its goal is to win, to overcome the obstacle, to manifest itself without limitation.

Each of the fire signs expresses this nature in its own unique way. The differences are mainly due to the position of the sign in the larger twelve-phase developmental cycle.

Aries

Aries is the first sign of the entire twelve sign sequence, and as such it is the initial thrust into being of the entity. It is pure fire, pure energy, pure impulse. Aries moves forward aggressively, noticing only its goal and anything that gets in its way. If necessary it charges into combat, exulting in the test of its will against another.

Leo

Leo is a more advanced version of fire, having a stable personality center from which to move outward. Leo expresses itself unreservedly, filling the space around it with its light and warmth. Its impulse is to impress, to make its mark on the world around it. Leo's fire is centered in its heart; it uses its will to bring happiness to its loved ones.

Sagittarius

Sagittarius is a still more mature manifestation of the fire element. Sag's context is its social group, its drive to manifest its concept of community and morality through that group. Sagittarius uses its energy to encourage and inspire its group members, and if necessary to encounter and defeat those that oppose its ideology.
